This is not the complete concert as the complete version has never been brodcasted. There are four songs missing. School Days was played as the 2nd song, South of the Border as the 6th, Liverpool Drive (an instrumental) as the 12th and My Ding-A-Ling as the 16th. The last one was removed by request by Chuck himself as it was going to be his new single. The middle two missing songs are available on the bootleg "Six Two Five" but on the other hand missing some songs from the TV broadcast. If you combine both of them you'll get 17 of the 19 songs performed. Enjoy!

Note: A great performance from Rock 'n' Roll icon Chuck Berry. The concert was shown as Sounds for Saturday in 1972, but this new extended cut includes more songs, more chat and more innuendo. For the first time there's also a chance to see an epic performance of My Ding-a-ling which was to become one of Berry's biggest hits.

DKRS 1975 - NTSC DVD - 16:9 - AC3 Audio - Don Kirshner's Rock Concert Santa Monica, Civic Center. USA. 4th September 1975 - Lineage: French TV's Canal Jimmy > ?? > DVDr > TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress > "Edit" > Adobe Encore 1.5 > VIDEO_TS folder
Intro- Killing Yourself To Live - Hole In The Sky - Snowblind - War Pigs - Paranoid
Line up :Tony Iommi : guitar - Ozzy Osbourne : vocals - Geezer Butler : bass - Bill Ward : drums - Gerald Woodruff : keyboards
Edits: The video on this DVDr could use some remastering, so I just did that. Image wise it was ok but a little dark and the usual dist around the edges, trimmed those of and adjust the levels. When the edges were trimmed the aspect ratio looked more like 16:9 than orginal 4:3. I decided to transform it into widescreen when I was at it, with just a minimal stretch to fit. The audio was a bit low on the source so I boosted that to maximum also. Beside the low audio there were some audio gaps that I filled out. Audio is in sync at all times.
Notes: This 25-minute U.S. television performance is currently the only pro-shot footage in circulation from the SABOTAGE era. It was Sabbath’s first appearance on Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert, a late night music showcase that ran from 1973 to 1981. They also reappeared on this program in 1980 with new vocalist Ronnie James-Dio.
For quite a while, we have been led to believe that this show was filmed at Long Beach Arena in Long Beach, CA, USA, due mainly to the claims of a few Sabbath collectors. In March 2004, Dave Tangye set the record straight in his book HOW BLACK WAS MY SABBATH. We were in the right state and off by a few days, but the Don Kirshner film is actually from a show at Santa Monica Civic Center in Santa Monica, CA. I'm still looking for confirmation on the exact date, but my best guess would be September 3rd or 4th, 1975.
The performance itself is excellent! The band are enjoying themselves and Ozzy has his voice under control. The film allows us to see the 'snowflakes' the band used during their 1975 performances of "Snowblind". It's kind of funny to see these flakes covering the band as they played. You can see the white stuff all over the stage for the remainder of their set! For "Black Sabbath, a large silver cross was raised above Bill's drum set. Also, note the carnations that adorned Bill's drum kit. This was a decoration he had adopted for that particular tour.
The arrangement of "War Pigs" is a bit skewed, as though the band went into the wrong section at one point. They are able to recover the song without noticably screwing up.
Pristine copies used to be hard to come by, since Sabbath’s Don Kirshner ’75 performance had only been rebroadcast a handful of times since the show went off the air. However, some excellent quality copies have recently been circulated on DVD-R by fans and bootleggers. Most appear to originate from the MUSIQUE program that aired on French TV's Canal Jimmy. The best copy I've seen had beautiful image quality, but was the motion was quite jerky. This problem could be a combination of PAL video standards (which has have a lower frame rate) and dropped frames from the original capture. (Note: I have yet to find any copies of the 1980 show on video)
One company that resells old TV footage to the media recently bought the rights to the Don Kirshner catalog and there was talk of “extra footage” and restoration work, but nothing has materialized as of yet. At least there is hope that we will eventually see nicer copies of this show, maybe even with extra songs!
Ever notice how so many TV and radio programs from the 70’s would artificially dub in crowd sounds or boost the levels of the applause between songs? Often, this sounds quite cheesy and obviously fake. This is done throughout Sabbath’s Don Kirshner appearance and it seems quite unnecessary given that the crowd seemed genuinely enthusiastic to begin with. Because they didn’t mix the overdubs in very smoothly, the opening notes of “Snowblind” and “War Pigs” are cut off. There even appears to be a small edit during the solo sections in “War Pigs”, as the song seems to change unnaturally at one point. I’d have to review this again to hear whether it was a band mistake or an intentional edit. If it were an edit, it wasn’t one that made a great deal of sense to me.
The performance itself is a good one and it’s a real treat to be able to see video of the footage of Sabbath from 1975! With only a handful of pro-shot clips of the band in the 70’s, the Don Kirshner TV appearance is highly recommended to both collectors and casual fans.

Eric Clapton
Eric Clapton & His Rolling Hotel - DVDr
This documentary is of Clapton's 1978 tour of Europe by way of a 2 car train that was orginally used by Hermann Goering during the Nazi years in Germany. Much of it is quite boring footage of the train as it was traveling. There is a lot of interview footage, mostly with Eric but also with some other members of the tour. Eric seems pretty wasted and/or exhausted during the interviews.
The most powerful part of the movie is seeing Eric getting emotional recalling the last time he saw Hendrix alive. There are a few nice little solo acoustic numbers performed on the train, but the band performances shown are a mixed bag. Some is not very inspired, and some is cut in a way that will frustrates any fan of the music. There are some clips of Muddy Waters, who was the warm-up act, and the film ends with the ending of the performance of Further on Up the Road from the last date on the tour (Civic Hall, Guildford, Surrey, England, Dec. 7, 1978 ) in which George Harrison and Elton John joined in. The musical highlight is an extended version of Cocaine. A good performance of Double Trouble is interrupted by interviews and commentary from concert patrons. There is a nice version of Layla too.
It's not hard to understand why this film was never released (it was shown only at a few festivals), but 1978 was a musical peak for EC, and this is the only chance to catch a glimpse of it. It's a shame that George Terry and Marcy Levy were not a part of this final leg of the tour.

Filmed by director Martin Scorcese, this documentary was broadcast once on PBS stations, but never officially released for reasons which remain unclear. A planned release on home video was slated for early summer 1995, and Warner/Reprise produced a limited number of advance copies to be used for promotion. The promotional copies have both a test pattern and the Warner/Reprise logo before the program material (see below), unlike the version shown on PBS. These promo copies also feature a blistering electric performance of "Driftin" not shown on the PBS release. DVD-R sourced directly from master promo copy. This, remastered version replaces the mono soundtrack of the promotional VHS with the pristine stereo audio mastered for radio broadcast. Audio remastering and sync by Button productions, new menus and authoring by Geetarz, and new title menu by the wonderful Joey Jay. Scrap your earlier versions, this one blows 'em all away! The South Bank Show Eric Clapton 2.12 2007 ITV1 Wales
20 years after he was first profiled, at a time when he was nearing the end of a long spiral of addiction and alcoholism, Eric Clapton chats to Melvyn Bragg about how his life has changed in the last two decades. He discusses his battles with drink and drugs, the tragic death of his son, his influences and most moving songs with music emerging as the one constant in a life of emotional turmoil. With rare and previously unseen archive footage, this is a unique and candid insight into the life of a living legend.

1) There is the annoying "FOR SCREENING ONLY" display which runs thoughout both shows.
2) At 11:15 into the '75 show there is a 15 second tone blast reminiscent of the days when tv channels actually went off the air late at night which I assume was in the broadcast. This is conveniently between songs.
3) On the "Young Music Show" -at 7:00 in Rhiannon there is a weird sound for about 2 seconds-at 17:15 in Go Your Own Way there is a weird sound for about 2 seconds

John Fogerty
All Stars - DVDr 54 minutes as aired by MTV in 1985. - I have chaptered to each live performance on this dvd.
If you never saw it you're in for a real treat. It's an interview, In Studio live performance in front of a small group of WB label folks...and features George Thorogood (interviewer). None of these songs have ever been released and all but one are R&B and gospel cover tunes and of-course the semi-legendary "My Toot-Toot".
The lineage>cable>JVC VHS>Maxell vhs tape>Samsung VHS>
Sony Gigapocket capture> Vegas 4.0>rendered to mp2>dvd
The only problem with this dvd happens during the performance of Let's Go...The wonderful cable company ran a commercial(video only) over the program...SO you get the Fogerty audio and the Commercial video for about 60 seconds...other than that this is a 1st generation vhs copy of the broadcast.

1. The Tonight Show 10-13-92 (3:19) This somewhat uneven performance features John Hammond sitting in with John Lee Hooker on "Bundle Up and Go". Jay Leno screws up the introduction, the house mix is less than perfect and it takes a while before it comes together. But hey, this is the Blues right? This segment must have been squeezed in at the end of the show that night.
2. CBS Sunday Morning 4-11-99 (8:57) An excellent sit down interview by Allison Stewarthighlights a look at the John Lee Hooker's career. At 81,he was still going strong. This video is sprinkled with John Lee Hooker performing in concert and historical photos. There are also thoughts by Bonnie Raitt and his personal manager, Mike Kappas. As with all CBS Sunday Morning presentations, this is wonderful

GOD SAVE THE KINKS! This is spectacular! Amazing quality video of the Kinks' 1973 performance on BBC's "In Concert" series. Having been a Kinks kultist for years, I've been eagerly awaiting some live Kinks videos on the Groove, and this far exceeds all expectations!
Timing is perfect on this, too. Just over a week ago I picked up Doug Hinman's fascinating new book "The Kinks: All Day and All of the Night". This attempts to put together a day-by-day journal of ALL of the Kinks' professional (and some personal) activities from 1961-1996. I've been geeking my way through it cover to cover, and am currently in 1975. And I'll tell ya, the Kinks did a whole bunch of inventive television performances over the years, and I can't wait to see more!
ONE IMPORTANT NOTE: according to Hinman's meticulously researched book, the date on this DVD and in the info file is INCORRECT. While the Kinks did produce a TV special in January '72 for BBC called "The Kinks at the Rainbow", this is not it. Descriptions of the '72 special include rehearsal shots, interviews with locals at the Archway Tavern, none of which are in this video. Plus the setlist from that show (actually filmed at the Rainbow on 1/31/72) was totally different.
CORRECT INFO: the book lists a filming on 1/24/73 at the BBC Television Centre in West London, for the BBC's "In Concert" series. And then it goes on to describe the setlist and players from this video. Also note that the video itsself says (C) 1973 at the end; I doubt the BBC would have sat on this for a year before broadcasting (and copyrighting) it.
So assuming that Hinman is correct (which in this case I trust, as these BBC sessions are well documented), I suggest that info files and future cover art be updated to reflect this corrected information.

This TV show is a superb time capsule from the late 1960s. It features performances (mostly lip-synched, as was the norm at the time) from some of the day's contemporary musicians. It's truly "of the moment" and really is a treat to watch. The performances were taped at the CBC's Toronto studios in August and September, 1967.

rom the telecast, here is the introductory statement from host Noel Harrison:

Our show tonight is about "today." It's about the freeing of the mind through lyrics, poetry, music, sights and sounds. You don't have to like everything you see; and that is indeed a part of the philosophy of today. Today is where you are, whether you like it or not, so look at it. We're going to show you some of the young talent that is pushing back the frontiers and finding a whole new scene for themselves."

From pre-broadcast interview with Harrison in the Globe and Mail:

I think it's going to be the best popular music program ever produced on TV" Harrison said. "It's honest; isn't trying to feed anybody any lines. The English have no money to do this type of thing; the Americans get panicky. Yeah, Canadian TV seems much more open. The media in the States are worried only about creating the effect. Up here they give us enough time to record."

ineage:

his TV show was liberated from the CBC archives about 10 years ago. A gentleman who was working there on a short-term contract during the lonely overnight hours was able to make himself a VHS dub directly from the original 2-inch master. He was then kind enough to make me a VHS copy from his VHS dub. At the time he made me swear to keep it a secret, which I did and consequently I forgot about the tape for many years. My copy was recently uncovered during a cellar decluttering session much to my pleasant surprise. I contacted the liberating gentleman to see if the lower generation source was available for torrenting. But alas, he informed me that his wife had recorded the series finale of Dawson's Creek over his tape. Naturally, he was more than a little embarrassed about this mishap and offered the aforementioned finale for torrenting. I politely declined and told him that the statute of limitations had expired on secret archive dubs, so this show was going to be shared. All I'm trying to say is that this is the best available source of this material on my particular branch of the tree. The CBC will not make you a copy.

VHS was played on my Sony SLV-N71 (consumer) VHS deck, through a Canopus ADVC-300 DV converter and recorded on my iMac with iMovie. The only editing was trimming 6 segments of the 2 minutes of black (spacers for commercial breaks) between each segment. Logical chapter markers were inserted. The iMovie DV file was encoded to mpeg2 by iDVD 6.0.3 with Encoding Preferences set to "Best Quality." I'm not a particularly good graphic designer, so I used one of the stock iDVD templates for the menus. I used the least tacky one I could find. If anyone is up to the task of making a better menu then please, by all means do so.

I believe that would make the lineage map look like this:

aster>VHS>VHS>DV(Canopus ADVC-300)>mpeg-2(iDVD)>torrent

In all honesty, it looks more worn to me than this lineage might imply. Those long horizontal dropouts are a hallmark of 2" video tape (which was the archival format of choice until 1" took over in the 80s). And the 2 analog generations give it a certain nostalgic softness. I suppose it looks good for a telecast that will be 40 years old (!) this autumn.
